Social Media Addiction is one of the biggest threats to youth mental health today. Canada’s social media expert and national award-winning speaker, author and mental health advocate, Wade Sorochan, provides an informative presentation on the rise of social media addiction causing an anxiety induced fixation for “LIKES” and “FOLLOWERS.” Research now shows that social media can cause feelings of sadness, loneliness, envy, resentment, low self-esteem, anxiety and depression, and that the addiction is equivalent to a serious drug addiction. Wade shares the latest information on how the addiction is causing mental health and body image issues and risky online behaviour, along with how to recognize addiction symptoms before it causes serious mental health issues with safety tips for youth while stressing the importance of balancing the virtual world with the real world. He also shares vital parental advice on opening up a discussion and dealing with the pressures of social media with Wade’s “Parent Checklist” Wade Sorochan is author of the ground-breaking book UnSocial Media: Virtual World Causing Real World Anxiety.
