Alberta Newsprint Company Scholarship Opportunities

ANC is proud to announce that they will again be awarding scholarships in the 2022 year. There are two categories: local high schools and Indigenous (which can also include students from local high schools). Information on each of these scholarship programs can be found below.

  1. What are the pros and cons of learning from home?
  2. What does a “Net Zero World” mean to you?

MCSnet Scholarship Opportunity

As Alberta's largest rural internet provider, we believe students deserve to grow their education in technology. That's why we started the new MCSnet Scholarship program. Our local communities are at the heart of our success, and we want to invest in our young people's future. Each year, we will offer four $1000 local scholarships to graduating grade 12 students. To be eligible, you must be pursuing post-secondary education in Computer Science or related studies, and you must reside in the MCSnet service area.

 

Scholarship Criteria

The scholarship is chosen by the MCSnet Scholarship Engagement Committee based on the following criteria:

  • Academic Marks: 60%

  • Community Involvement: 40%

  • Tie-breaking Criteria: Work experience or involvement in an initiative (may be technology-related) that has brought a positive impact to the community.

Submission Requirements

  • Official high school transcript of final marks

  • Reference letter from principal or guidance/career counselor

  • Official confirmation of acceptance in a post-secondary institution

  • A short, typed essay (800-1000 words) outlining your post-secondary education goals and your career intentions. Additionally, include personal background, work experience, volunteer activities, and any other relevant accomplishments/activities.

Storwell Bursary

Storwell Self Storage has re-launched their Foster Children Bursary which provides scholarships to foster children who are working on building a better life for themselves.

Storwell offers an annual bursary of $2,000 to support foster children as they pursue their post-secondary education and to help them as they progress into a new and exciting stage of their lives.

Western Universities National Indigenous Scholarship Program 

This scholarship is awarded annually to three incoming Indigenous undergraduate students (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) studying full-time at Western's main campus in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, Engineering, Music, Health Sciences, FIMS, Social Science, Science based on their outstanding academic excellence and meaningful and impactful contribution toward Indigenous communities.

We are now offering FIVE scholarships! Three scholarships will be awarded to Indigenous students applying directly from a Canadian high school, and two scholarship to Indigenous students applying from a post-secondary institution for full-time studies at Western's main campus in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, Engineering, Music, Health Sciences, FIMS, Social Science, Science.

Recipients must meet the minimum academic averages for admission to their selected program, and will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, creative and innovative thinking, and previous or intended contributions to Indigenous communities.

Scholarship Values

  • 3 awards at $50,000 each to Indigenous students applying from Canadian high schools ($20,000 for year- one, $10,000 for year’s two to four based on ongoing registration)
  • 2 award at $50,000 to an Indigenous student applying from a post-secondary institution ($20,000 for year-one, $10,000 for year’s two to four based on ongoing registration)

Wize Scholarship Opportunity

Wize, a Canadian learning platform is hoping to help local high school students through COVID-19.
